Nice Babatngon

There is a mission work that the husband started in this town called Babatngon, Leyte and I have been a frequent visitor here. Babatngon is located at the northern tip of Leyte and has approximately 35 thousand inhabitants and has a languid feel to it as it is next to a cove. Fishing and farming are the common mode of enterprise here and it is thriving as a community. The town possesses a breathtaking nature scene on both the sea and mountain fronts. The forests are verdant, the crops fecund and I hope it stays this way for all time.

If we can call it that, progress looms about with the arrival of the expansive housing project initiated by the National Housing Authority with 2,000 villas knit next to each other. These one-bedroom concrete villa subdivision is the proposed resettlement for those who are living very close to areas prone to storm surges and flooding. Word has it that the town will be further developed into a major port of the Leyte and as Tacloban City becomes more saturated, this might just become the suburb to be, in the not so distant future.

Herewith are photos taken of the area from a park located on a mountain top that surveys the vista of Babatngon, 360 degrees.

Photography: Long Exposure Shots of the San Juanico Strait

Where I live right now is situated close to the Strait (about 500 feet). It's a blessing altogether even though it's sure that I will have to evacuate with each typhoon rated at Category 3 and above. However, looking at this at any weather and at the end of the day, somehow I forget it all because of the picturesque vista where I see Tacloban City from across and a small island of Samar.  It's both breathtaking and God-given.

To show you what I mean, here are photos shot at sundown, with a DSLR camera, with settings anywhere from f/22 - f/29, ISO from 100 - 200 and exposure from 5 secs to 25 secs.

Samar Island across.

Tacloban City w/ lights at early dusk.

Towards east of the Strait w/ purplish sunset.

The sea had minimal waves I couldn't control but the colors are spectacular.

On a cloudy dusk.

Rizal Beach in Dulag:

Recenlty took a random shot of the sea grass bed w/ flowers on the beach at Rizal Beach, Dulag, Leyte and the cloudscapes that day were quite fascinating as well.

Dulag was one of the towns in Leyte that was hit hard by Typhoon Yolanda but people are doing their best to rebuild.

Been going to and fro all around Leyte and I am rediscovering it unlike any other time. Our landscape is not to be taken for granted. Whether land, sea, or mountainside, we have quite a treasure trove in our own beloved island.

Black and White Birds Around Me:

Just took photos around me of birds on wires on a gloomy day. The closeness and communication skills they have amaze me.

A Glimpse of Agas-Agas:

Agas-Agas mountains in Sogod, Leyte

From three hundred twenty eight feet high looking down, Agas, Agas Bridge in Sogod, Leyte, towers as the tallest in the Philippines. The view is quite astounding I will say and makes my palms and feet soles sweat and without prodding, it makes me start thinking about existential questions.

There is a zip line fun ride across the bridge and to be honest, I am not sure if it will be fun and I am not going to sign up for it anytime soon.

Padre Burgos Castle and Tangka-an Beach:

Happy to report that the first spot I got to hang out upon returning To Leyte was Padre Burgos Castle in Tangka-an Beach situated at the southern-most tip of The island.

Padre Burgos Castle also features excellent hospitality, unmatched around the area with exclusivity that makes one feel special.
The lady servers are charming and polite.

 A tropical dream...

I do hope to visit again, it was a very nice reprieve from the frenzied transition from the USA to the Philippines!
